SHEEP BRISKER

MARKET AT FRANKTON STEADY SALE FOR BEEF PORKERS IN KEEN REQUEST Fat sheep were brisker of sale at the Frankton yards yesterday when another large penning was forward. Beef sold at much the same rates as last week with occasional price changed in favour of buyers, while a short entry of fat pigs was in keener demand at better values. The steers on offer comprised a mixed quality lot with occasional pens of prime quality sorts. Heavyweights were traded f*om £l2 10s to £l3 a head, with medium-weights selling from £lO 10s to £ll, and light descriptions from £7 14s to £9. In the cow and heifer beef section one pen of heavy choice Polled Angus heifers sold from £ll to £ll ss, the best money for some time. Other heavy prime cattle realised from £9 to £lO. The quality of a number of pens was below standard and these did not sell readily. Prices for beef on the whole did not show any great change, but with the drop of 2s per 100 in the export schedule it was inevitable that the market would suffer to a certain extent. However, any price changes were only slight. A smaller yarding of calves sold very firmly. Sheep in Demand Fat sheep were noticeably brighter of sale than last week, ewes often improving by Is 6d a head. Wethers were very firm, the top price again being 375. However, while this was obtained for only one pen last week, it was paid on several occasions yesterday. Other choice wethers sold very readily from 32s 3d to 365, and fat sorts were knocked down from 29s 6d to 31s 6d. Extra prime ewes were quoted from 21s 6d to 25s 3d against 20s to 24s 3d last week and fat descriptions from 18s to 20s 6d, in comparison with 17s to 19s 6d. A )d entry of mixed quality lambs was in firm request. No heavy prime baconers came forward in the fat pig section where only a light entry was available. Porkers right through were dearer, particularly light-weight descriptions. Medium baconers were quoted from 66s to 88s, *-*ut cnmnaratively few fid above 84s. A large bench of buyers opera leu in the store pig section and here values were firm to firmer.
