FAT STOCK SALES

WESTFIELD MARKETS PRICES GENERALLY MAINTAIN GOOD DEMAND FOR CALVES AUCKLAND, Wednesday All classes yarded at the Westfield stock sales yesterday were smaller. Prices in most classes remained unchanged, the only alteration being in calves, values for which advanced on last week’s quotations. Steers made to £ls, compared with £l4 last week. Cows and heifers were 2s 6d more at £9 12s 6d. Values for a fair sheep entry were Arm. Wethers made to 31s and ewes to 22s 6d. Last week’s best prices were 30s and 25s 6d respectively. A keen sale at full late rates resulted for a smaller yarding of lambs. Top price was 6d less at 29s 3d. Competition was brisk for a much smaller calf entry. Values for all classes showed a considerable improvement. Runners sold to £7 4s, as against £7 12s 6d for an exceptional calf last week, while vealers were 12s higher at £5 Is. Less than an average yarding of pigs came forward and bidding was steady. Baconer averages were unchanged at 6Jd to 6£d per lb, while porkers again made from 6]d to per lb.
