GIFT EVENINGS

There was a large attendance of residents and friends in the Waitoa Hall recently, the occasion being a gift evening tendered to Miss Jean Hansen, who is shortly to be married. Prior to supper Mr J. Lynch asked the guest-of-honour to accept the large number of gifts as a token of the high esteem in which she was held by her wide circle of friends, and on behalf of all present wished her every happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr J. Thornton suitably responded. On Wednesday Mrs P. McGrail was hostess at a very pleasant evening at her home in honour of Miss Peg Smith, who is shortly to be married. Games and competitions were played, and after supper was served, Miss Smith was asked to accept a number of gifts, for which Mr McLean, on her behalf, suitably expressed thanks. Among those present were:—Mesdames H. Paton, P. McGrail, D. Annett. Misses P. Smith, M. Fitzgerald, C. Casey, B. Mayer.
