CENTENNIAL WEEK

OPENED IN CHRISTCHURCH FLOATS DEPICT PROGRESS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Holding the gaze of thousands lining the streets in the brilliant sunshine a two-mile long procession of floats depicting pages from New Zealand’s past moved through Christchurch in a colourful cavalcade this morning. The procession marked the opening of the centennial week celebrations, and was a striking demonstration of the remarkable growth made in the city and province since those early days when the pioneers first set their hand to the work of the building of a nation. In range and quality of the floats the procession exceeded any spectacle of this nature previously seen in the streets of the city.
