ALL MEN FIT
RECORD ARMY PASS RECRUITS FOR THE WEEK STEADINESS MAINTAINED For the first time since the outbreak of war, a medical board has been able to pass a group of recruits in the No. 4 (Hamilton) military area 100 per cent fit. This occurred at Taumarunui on Wednesday when every one of nine men who were examined were found to be fit for active service in any part of the world. Examinations of volunteers for the army were conducted in three centres in the area, Hamilton, Te Kuiti. and Taumarunui. The percentage of fit passes was above the average, 31 men being examined and 26 passing fit. Two were classed as temporarily unfit and the other three were permanently unfit. The higher percentage of men being passed fit is probably a reflection of the new procedure which was instituted in the No. 4 area on Wednesday by which dental boards have been eliminated in favour of having the army dentists examine and repair the teeth of recruits. Recruiting in the area has not been brisk this week, although the steady rate revealed during the past month or so has been maintained. Up to last night the number of recruits in the area for the week numbered 33 and another four enlisted for the Maori Battalion. The previous week 38 Europeans enlisted.
