Mr J. N. Wilson, of Auckland, is in Hamilton. Mr H. R. Duggan, of Auckland, visited Hamilton to-day. Messrs F. B. Shortt and E. Bennett (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Major C. W. Salmon has been appointed a member of the Canteen Board in place of Lieutenant-Colonel S. H. Crump. Mr H. Gatty, representative of Pan American Airways in New Zealand will leave by the Mariposa on Monday on a business visit to the United States. Mr John Wood, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, has been appointed director-general of works and buildings of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Sir Robert Garran, K.C., former Solicitor-General of the Common- ; wealth of Australia and Past Gov- ■ ernor of Rotary in Australia, has ; arrived to attend the annual District Rotary Conference at Palmer- | ston North. j Sir Harry Batterbee, High Com- ! missioner for the United Kingdom, ' arrived at Auckland yesterday on a two days’ visit. He was the guest lof the * Auckland branch of the Royal Empire Society at a morning ! reception and was entertained by the 1 Auckland Chamber of Commerce at luncheon. In the afternoon he opened i the loan exhibition of 20th century , British paintings and drawings in the Art Gallery, and was present in the i evening at the opening of the Y.M.C.A. hut at the Papakura Camp.
