LONG SERVICE ENDS
government officer MR H. G. ABSOLUM HONOURED Thirty-five years’ service with the Department of Agriculture was terminated yesterday with the retirement of Mr H. G. Absolum, who has been associated with the Hamilton branch of the Department during the last 20 years. Before coming to Hamilton, Mr Absolum was stationed at Auckland, Wanganui, Hastings, Napier and Wellington. During his period in Hamilton he has been clerk in charge of the Hamilton office. In making a presentation of a wallet to Mr Absolum in the office of the department yesterday, Mr A. W. Storey referred to the retiring officer’s long and faithful service to the Department. Other officers who spoke were Messrs H. Cleland (principal district inspector), P. W. Smallfield (officer in charge of the Ruakura Animal Research Station), T. A. Blake (veterinarian), and J. Shepherd (fields inspector). All spoke in eulogistic terms of the esteem in which Mr Absolum was held in the office, and wished him long life and prosperity. In thanking the gathering for its presentation and good wishes, Mr Absolum referred to his regret at leaving the Department, and said that it had always been a pleasure to work with such a helpful staff. Mr Absolum will continue to reside in Hamilton .
