ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
MATAMATA BRANCH YEAR The annual meeting of the Matamata branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was held on Wednesday night. Mr A. E. Wrigley, president of the association, presided over an excellent attendance of members and the public. In his report Mr Wrigley pointed out the vast improvement shown in the past twelve months, both to the finance of the association and also to the number of candidates who had taken the lectures in First Aid and Home Nursing. This was very pleasing, as it showed an added interest which had been sadly lacking during the past few years. As treasurer, Mr Wrigley said it gave him great pleasure to report that the finami.s were in a healthy condition. The balance after a donation of £lO had been made to the Brigade, stood at £l7 4s 9d. It was later decided by the meeting to increase this donation for the coming year to £2O. The chairman eulogised the service to the committee of Mr and Mrs H. Grason and Mr Harry Stone, who, because oi leaving the district, haa tendered their resignations. The position of secretary would also have to be filled by another nominee, continued Mr Wrigley, as Mr L. Morgan, who had for some years occupied the position, had been accepted for military service. The success of the association was mainly due to the efforts of the secretary, and he as chairman would like to take the opportunity of thanking Mr Morgan for the results he had ■ achieved. Mr Wrigley concluded his report by thanking Drs. J. Mackereth and i D. R. Abernethy, Sister McAlister | and Superintendent A. Clark for their very valuable assistance during 1 the year in preparing candidates for the examinations. Officers Elected The election of officers for 1940-41 resulted as follows: President, Mr A. E. Wrigley; vice-presidents, Messrs W. A.' Gordon (Mayor). F. E. Hughes, G. G. Bell and the Rev. ] Witheford; secretary, Mrs L. O.; Mason; treasurer. Mr A. E. Wrigley; auditor, Mr C. C.
