RUGBY LEAGUE

NO AUSTRALIAN TOUR (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Friday The council of the New Zealand Rugby League last evening decided that the time was inopportune to accept the invitation to send a New Zealand team to Australia during the coming season. In reply to an inquiry the council resolved that registered Rugby League players who had joined the military forces would be free to participate in football matches played under any code during the period they are with such forces without prejudice to their status as Rugby League players. Mr Redwood referred to the death of an old and esteemed administrator and former international player, Mr James Rukutai, a member *of the Auckland Rugby League and chairman of the New Zealand Maori Rugby League Control Board. Members stood in silence a.? a mark of respect to his memory.
