DRAKE’S DRUM USED NAVAL MEN HONOURED CONQUERORS OF GRAF SPEE (United Tress Assn.—Elec- Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 17 For the first time within living memory, “Drake’s Drum” was brought today from its resting place in Buckland Abbey and taken to the Guildhall at Plymouth. Around it sat 300 officers and men from the cruiser Exeter while Plymouth honoured the conquerors of the Graf Spee. With the drum was the sword that Drake carried in Plymouth three and a-half centuries ago.
All work in the city was suspended while the company from the Exeter, with a contingent from the Ajax, marched triumphantly through the streets.
