EPSOM TROTTING
SATURDAY’S BIG EVENT FOETEX FANCIED CANDIDATE SEVERAL STRONG BRACKETS Three strong combinations are entered for the big race at Epsom on Saturday, the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's February meeting, Bold Venture and Tangatu, Fortex and Red Flush, and Three Bells and Isobel Derby. Bold Venture has been showing good recent form and her success at the matinee fixture here points to her stripping in great heart for racing at the fixture. The other leg of the combination has also been racing prominently of late and was placed at Hutt Park last week. Fortex has proved her worth as a stayer and appeals as the stronger of Stewart’s pair. Si/e won the Kaipaki Handicap ip solid style and more recently at the Auckland summer meeting took the honours in the Grandstand Handicap from Tangatu and Battlevale.
The consistency of Three Bells will assure him of an optimistic following and he should hold his stablematc, Isobel Derby, safe. The latter is an outstanding track worker but of late has failed V reproduce form on race day.
Parauri, a fine performer last season. appears to be on the upgrade again and Peter Smith, a winner in course record time at Cambridge, has been hitting out in great style on the tracks at Epsom. At his best he would have definite prospects. Ringtrue, Sir Frank, and Star Pronto are not without a chance, but Equipoise, according to Auckland reports, is under a cloud and may not start. A holding track would assist the claims Df Kewpie’s King, Our McKinney and Our Peggy, but the best supported may be Fortex—Red Flush bracket, Parauri, Three Bells—lsobel Derby bracket.
