GOOD SPRINT CONTEST LADY VASCLYNE’S CHANCE FRANCISCO SHOULD IMPROVE Of the useful field of twelve sprinters entered for the second leg of the double, the Papakura Handicap, four are engaged in the big race earlier in the day, the quartette being Bold Venture, Tangatu, Sir Frank and Peter Smith and if reserved they should not fail to make a bold bid. for sprint supremacy at the fixture. As in the earlier race, Bold Venture and Tangatu comprise a strong combination, another dangerous pair being Lady Vasclyne and Shrewdy, from the Kennerley stable. The former makes strong appeal off the front. She won the Akarana Handicap on the first day of the Auckland summer meeting when she accounted for her stablemate, Amywin, and Kete Kura and will lack little on the score of condition for Saturday's engagement. Munga Tangi and Vanora are a likely pair of improvers, but Francisco should account for them. She is a brilliant pacer and will have an opportunity here of making amends for her disappointing form over the holidays. Great Chum disclosed good form in the Bledisloe Handicap when he beat all but Equipoise and on that running he must be conceded every chance. Form earlier in the day may cause a revision of ideas but there is every indication of the public preferring the credentials of the Lady Vasclyne bracket, Francisco and Bold Venture bracket.
