CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT NORTH ISLAND WINNER (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sunday The winner of the annual 100 miles Palmerston North to Wellington amateur cycle race, held yesterday, was L. Hazelwood, of Palmerston North, who beat another Palmerston North rider, F. Manning, across the finishing line by about three lengths. Both were off the 25m mark and were among the first riders to arrive at Paekakariki. Third place went to N. Scrimgeour, Wellington, who had a start of 30m. The North Island championship was held in conjunction with the race and was won by L. M. Richard (Christchurch), who, off 10m, made the fastest time of 5h 19m 16 l-*»-The riders had to face a southerly wind throughout and this stowed down the times and added tothe strenuous nature of the contest. Some rain fell between Palmerston Nortn and Foxton. There were 67 entries and only three riders scratched —L. E. J. Tantrum (Shannon), L. RLaloli (Auckland) and E. D. Taylor (Christchurch).
