RED CROSS COLLECTION A street collection held in Morrinsville on Friday resulted in the sum of £42 being collected for the Red Cross Fund. At present 220 persons are being trained by the Morrinsville Red Cross and St. John Ambulance organisations in five first aid or home nursing classes. On Wednesday 18 candidates were examined in first aid work. FOOTBALL DINNER Members of the Old Boys Football Club’s senior team were entertained at dinner at the Nottingham Castle Hotel on Saturday by the president’of the club, Mr W. J. Aitken, to celebrate the club’s success in winning the Morrinsville Rugby Sub-union’s senior championship. Representatives of the union management committee were also present. Tributes were paid by several speakers to Mr Aitken’s services to football in many capacities. Mr Aitken has been patron of the Kereone Club and president of the Old "toys Club for many years. KNOX TENNIS CLUB The Knox Tennis Club held its annual meeting on Monday night, the Rev. G. A. Naylor presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, the Rev. G. A. Naylor; vice-presidents, Messrs H. J. Barford and I. Ball; secretary, Miss N. Moore; treasurer, Miss D. Arndt; club captain, Mr G. Howie; match committee, Miss D. Arndt, Messrs I. Ball and G. Howie. The opening day will be Saturday, October 14. AGRICULTURAL CLUBS It is most gratifying to those who have fostered the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs movement to know that this year 131 children attending primary schools in the district have entered calves in the calf-
rearing competitions, as compared with 88 last year. The hon. secretary, Mr F. H. Stretton, advises that entries have been received as follows: Whitikahu School, 23 calves; Tatuanui, 9; Tahuroa, 4; Kereone, 11; Motumaoho, 12; Mangateparu, 24; Te Puninga, 23; Morrinsville, 25; total, 131. FINAL DISPLAYS PHYSICAL CULTURE CLUB The Morrinsville Physical Culture Club held its last display of boxing and wrestling for the season recently. Mr J. B. Kelly, the president, welcomed a visiting team of boxers from Hamilton. Boxing exhibitions were given as follows: J. Iredale (10.8), Hamilton, y. D. Craig (10.7), Morrinsville; A. Jarvis (8.6), Hamilton, v. J. Woods (8.12), Hamilton; J. Cameron (7.4), Hamilton, v J. Irwin (7.6), Hamilton; J. Vandy (7.7), Hamilton, v. A. Beere (7.8), Hamilton; J. Hirst (6.0), Morrinsville, v. B. McDonald (6.2), Morrinsville,. Wrestling exhibitions were given by Morrinsville boys as follows: B. Scott (9.0), v. E. Raynell (9.4); R. Best (10.0), v. M. Allen (10.0); B. Best (9.0), v. I. Lewis (9.5); K. Webber (8.0), v. B. Marwood (7.10); R. Pekin (9.5), v. P. Monkley (9.12); Gordon Spice (12.0), v. George Spice (11.6). ATHLETIC CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS At the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Amateur Athletics Club, the following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr W. J. Aitken; president, Mr A. G. Yardley; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. B. F. Campbell, M. G. Phillpott, A. W. Robson; secretary, Mr W. T. Rudman; assistant secretary, Mr A. E. Yardley; delegates to Waikato Athletic Sub-centre, Messrs. D. R. F. Campbell and F. H. Hart; auditor, Mr W. W. Westwater; committee, Messrs. A. G. Yardley, D. R. F. Campbell, W. T. Rudman, R. Hampshire, D. Cates, F. Hart, A. W. Robson, R. Colquhoun, C. Chase, Roy Hampshire. A successful year was reviewed, and the balance-sheet showed a credit of £3l 18s 4d. The subscriptions for the coming year were fixed at seniors ss, plus affiliation; juniors, k 2s 6d, plus affiliation.
