GARDENING ACTIVITY

CENTENNIAL SHOW COMPETITION ORGANISED In Hamilton and In fact throughout the Dominion there has been pronounced tendency amongst suburban dwellers to pay more attention to horticulture, and nurserymen report record sales. This has been brought about by war conditions, most people recognising that with comparatively little effort a first-class kitchen and flower garden may he developed, the former to help the cost of living and the latter to assist in keeping a bright outlook, which is so neecssary during war time. The rationing of benzine has been a factor in popularising gardening activities, now that the week-end family jaunt is more or less a thing of the past. What can be pleasanter or healthier than assisting Nature to produce well-grown vegetables and beautiful flowers? The members of the 'Hamilton Society will always be pleased to give any advice and assistanc to inexperienced gardeners, and any enquiry made to the secretary will be promptly given effect to. The society is also assisting in another way by offering challenge cups and prize money for the Centennial Garden Competition. There will be three types of gardens to be adjudicated upon. Full particulars with regard to this competition may be obtained from the secretary or any of the leading florists in Hamilton. The competition is open to gardens within a three-mile radius of the new post office, and entries close on September 30.
