DOMAIN IMPROVEMENT
HAMILTON BOROUGH WAIPA COUNCIL OBJECTB (Special to Times) TE AW AM ITU, Tuesday. At the August meeting of the Waipa County Council notice of apportionment of the cost of capital expenditure by the Hamilton Domain Board under the Public Reserves, Domains and National Parks Act was considered. The board sent a copy of a letter addressed to the Under-Secre-tary of Lands setting out the proposed improvements to parks and domain lands in the Hamilton borough. It was stated therein that the estimated capital expenditure was £1*2.750. The board could find £750 of this money, and it was proposed that after allowing for subsidy, the balance of the capital money be apportioned as follows: Hamilton borough, twothirds; Waikato and Waipa counties, one-sixth each. Unless objection was lodged with the Minister of Lands within two months the Minister could make an order of apportionment in accordance with the notice. Mr F. L.* Onion asked whether it meant that the council would have lo pay and have no representation. The chairman. Mr S. C. B. Macky, replied that such was not the case, but the Domain Board would not compromise. If the council did not agree, it would have to contest the issue. Mr J. T. Johnson explained that only a small portion of the Waipa county was concerned, yet it was being asked to pay a sixth. The chairman said he did not oppose some contribution but the board would not give way on the question of representation. Mr T. Garland thought that it was most unfair that settlers in the Orakau, Pukekura and Kakepuku areas should have to contribute to sports facilities in Hamilton. It was decided on thp motion of Messrs E. F. Peaeocke and F. L. Onion to lodge an objection.
