“The Man in the Iron Mask"
The mask worn in “The Man in the Iron Mask" by Louis Hayward wos built by producer Edward Small’s property experts from specifications supplied by Alexandre Dumas famous story. It weighs nearly ten pound*, and the lock which holds it closed is a faithful replica of such ancient devices. An expert locksmith is kept on the set at all times when the mask i& in use, just in case anything should go wrong. Rather than constantly remove the mask, Hayward sips water through a straw whenever he becomes thirsty, especially after delivering long lines.
