“DEAR BRUTUS”

VERY SUCCESSFUL READING HAMILTON SHAKESPEARE CLUB There was a large audience in St. Peter’s HaJJ Last night, when the Hamilton Shakespeare Club read “Dear Brutus,” by J. M. Barrie. “Dear Brutus” is i dcv’ghtful play, with all that sentiment, human appeal and whimsical charm for which Barrie is noted. It deals with the desire in every heart for another chance, and the conviction that things would be very different were that second chance given. However, the play proves that with most people the second chance would lead to much the same results as the first; only in isolated cases would the mistakes be avoided. The readers did exceptionally good work. The scone between Mr Dearth, the father (Mr A. E. Manning) and Margaret, the child that might have been (Beverley Bateman), one of the most beautiful ever written, impressed the audience greatly, and the other characters were also very well taken, as follows: Alice Dearth, Mrs C. L. Mac Diarmid; Mrs Coade, Mrs T. P. Weatherhog; Lady Caroline, Mrs V. Olney; Joanna Trout, Miss Harris; Mabel Purdie, Miss Eileen Hope; Matey, Mr Hugh Morton; Lob, Mr Blackwood Paul; McPurdie, Mr Frank Brewer; Mr Coade, Mr F. de la Mare.
