WOMEN’S MEETINGS

ATTITUDE OF THE INSTITUTE OFFICIAL ACTION DENIED In reply to criticism of the part allegedly played by women’s institutes in the meetings of women which have protested against the operation of certain aspects of the Social Security Act, a statement was made to an interviewer to-day by Mrs J. W. Chapman, president of the Waikato Federation of Women's Institutes. The criticism was contained in a letter in the Waikato Times yesterday over the nom de plume “Spero Meliora." Mrs Chapman emphatically denied that the women’s institutes as an organisation had anything to do with the meetings or that the institutes as such were taking any part in an alleged “ campaign ” against the Social Security Act.
