CHURCH SYNOD

WAIKATO DIOCESE WORK PROGRAMME NEXT WEEK Synod of the Waikato Diocese will meet in Hamilton next week, and although t-he formal constitution of Synod will not be held until Tuesday evening, members o'f Anglican clergy will gather this week-end for informal business. Synod will be formally constituted on Tuesday, with the Synod service in the Cathedral, the preacher being the Rev. G. A. Crossman, vicar of St. Aidan’s, Claudeiands. Immediately after the service a meeting will be held in thu Synod Hall, which is the Parish Hall. The president, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, will deliver his charge, and the election of officers, including lhe election of members to represent the Waikato Diocese at General Synod in Nelson next February, will be made that evening. Synod will meet all da> on Wednesday. Archbishop’s Visit This year the clergy have been invited, to meet in Hamilton for two days before Synod. At the Cathedral oil Sunday evening, His Grace the Archbishop of New Zealand, the Most Rev. C. W. Averill, will preach. The ladies’ guilds of the Hamilton parishes are entertaining llis Grace afler the service in order to allow any of the clergy who served under him, and others, Lo meet the arcliDishop • before his resignation takes place. It is hoped the Maori Mission Committee and the Maori workers will mee-t on Thursday morning. Other important meetings will be arranged for also. The Rev. E. G. Wilson will be instituted vicar of St. John’s, Waitara, after Synod week. PATRONAL FESTIVAL CATI FEDIRAL ARRAN GDM E NTS The Dean and Chapter of St. Peter's Cathedral have made arrangements for services and social events In connection with the Patronal Festival. St. Peter’s Day fell yesterday, but the Sunday within the Octave affords ail opportunity for the greatest number of people to take part in tiiu celebrations, and arrangements hive been made for a corporate communion of parishioners at 8 a.m. on Sunday. This will be followed by a parishioners breakfast in St. Peter's Hall at 8.45 a.m. A large attendance is expected both at the service and breakfast. At 11 a.m. matins will be sung in the cathedral, the preacher bein, r the Rt. Rev. €. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato. Solemn evensong will be sung at 7 p.m. and all the clergy of the diocese attending the clergy conference will be present. The preacher at this service will he the Most Rev. C. W. Averill, Archbishop of New Zealand.
