STAFF REDUCED

TRADE COMMISSIONER ACTION BY CANADA Partly as a result of the import restrictions and the anticipated decline in trade between 'Canada and New Zealand, the Canadian Government has decided to abolish temporarily the office of assistant-trade commissioner in the Dominion. Mr R. P. Bower, who has been assistant Canadian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand with headquarters in Auckland for the past two and a-half years, has received notice of his transfer to Sydney, where he will occupy a position similar to that in New Zealand. Mr Bower came to the Dominion after serving in the Canadian office in Java. He will leave for Sydney by the Niagara on July 25. One of the essential functions of the Canadian Trade Commissioner’s office, it is stated, is to introduce new lines to the New Zealand market. Owing to the control regulations this is now considered an almost impossible task.
