CAMBRIDGE BRANCH

The annual meeting of the Cambridge Plunket Society was held recently when the Mayor, Mr Edgar ! James, presided over a fair attend- ; ance of members. j Miss F. E. Hooker reviewed the past ; year, stating that the sub-branches had made steady progress and all were in a sound financial position. In May j the president and three members of the 1 committee visited the Matamata subbranch to discuss the extension of the work in that district. Later, Nurse Fitzgibbon, nursing adviser to the Plunket Society, also visited Matamata. The resignation in December of Nurse McGuiness, who had accepted a position with the Department of Health, was received with regret. The | branch had been fortunate in securing I Nurse Longden for the position. The nurse reported that during the year 108 visits had been paid to the ; Cambridge headquarters. New cases had numbered 94, and there had been 3764 visitors to the rooms. She had paid 144 visits to Morrinsville, Matamata and Putaruru, where there were 239 new cases, and 8455 visitors to the rooms. The balance-sheet showed that cash In the bank at the commencement of the year had been £6B 6s Id, and at the conclusion, £9 19s 7d. The branch had £2OO on fixed deposit. Votes of thanks were extended to Buses Ltd. for issuing the nurse with a free travelling pass for the year, and , to the press. , Mr James congratulated the ladies on the work they were carrying out, and paid a -special tribute to the secretary, Miss Hooker. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mrs S. Lewis; president, Mrs R. 3. Hanna; vice-presid-ents, Mesdames J. Butler and W. R Garrard; secretary and treasurer, Miss F. E. Wood, 11. Jackson, K. Butler, C. W. Chandler, T. F. Richards, M. A. Bell, P. W. Suckling and L. F. Johnson, with power to add; advisory committee, Drs. 11. C. Tod, J. Ritchie and L. F. Johnson, and Messrs Edgar James, E. H. Leigh, C. H. Priestley, D. J. Lundon, F. T Ray. G. W. Vennell and T. F. Richards.
