TOPICS OF THE DAY
Why Are They Arming ? “Switzerland does not make preparations for defence much more far-reaching than any she considered necessary even when the Great War was actually in progress, unless she sees good cause for anxiety,” says the Yorkshire Post. “Holland does not man her defences merely on account of idle rumours. Nor, for that matter, is anxiety confined to Europe. It extends also to Central and South America, as well as to Africa. The intrigues employed by the Axis Powers to create internal dissension in the countries they intended to attack have not gone unobserved, and precautions are being taken against their repetition even in countries far removed from the scene of the European outrages. Herr Hitler will not succeed in confusing the issues raised by President Roosevelt, or in lessening the determination of the Powers concerned to organise in Europe collective resistance against, aggresaiun, wherever it may be attempted.”
