LIAISON OFFICER
MR HUNTER'S POSITION REPLY TO MR S. G. HOLLAND (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Criticism of the Government by Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., in an address in £ambrid& > . that it judged itself above the law in illegally appointing Mr C. L. Hunter, ex-member for Manawatu, as liaison ofllcer in the Labour Department, drew the comment from the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, that the Government does not judge itself above the law. but took the commonsense view that the law is made for the purpose of helping people. "It is fair that people should obey the law,” said Mr Savage, "but we cannot all be wise like Mr Holland. Sometimes they break the law unconsciously. Mr Hunter is one of the most qualified men ever appointed for that, particular job, and if lie cannot hold the position I say it is a pity.”
Mr Savage also mentioned Mr D. Barnes, ex-member for Waitaki. who was appointed to the State Advances Corporation as he knew what was re-
quired in a State institution dealing not only with local bodies but with farmers and all sorts of individuals.
