Red hair was not always as popular as it Is now. Ancient Egyptians so detested red hair that they killed children born with it. Any red tints were dyed blue. Blue beards and blue wigs are often found on Egyptian mummies, but never any red hair. The first record of a striking clook is one presented by the Persian King to Charlemagne, A.D. 800. It sttuck by the aid of the wind, which moved a needle in a circulatory motion. Though cats were worshipped in Egypt, there is no mention of them in the Bible. Silk thread was first used in 3000 B.C. by the Emperor Shin-nong—for fishing lines. Neither Greeks nor Romans knew their oats, though they fed them to their domestic animals. The barbarians introduced them to oatmeal. Cleopatra never brushed her hair. Brushes for the hair are a comparatively modern invention. In the ninth century A.D. a private physician of Arabia refused an invitation to visit the Sultan of Bokhara, because the carriage of his books would require 400 camels.
