TROTTING TALENT AT CLAUDELANDS

MATINEE MEETING

FINE FIELDS ENGAGED FREE FOR ALL EVENT COMMENT ON THE PROSPECTS (By “Padlock”) Fine fields are engaged for the inaugural matinee meeting of the Waikato Trotting Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association, at Ciaudelands. on Saturday, and there is every indication that this progressive body will experience a most successful gathering. The principal attraction will he the Free for All event, in which some of the leading performers of the Dominion are engaged, including the Auckland Cup winner, Navy Blue, Following are the fields with a review of the prospects:— PERRIN HANDICAP, li miles; maiden pacers. First division. Tui’s Son .Northern Smile Noble Turk Our Flora Kitty’s Choice Radio oueen Loyal Betty Rosalyn Thorpe PERRIN HANDICAP, Second division. Captain Scott Tiny Town Tumble W'inhisway Hottentot Ringstone Star Guide Davy Day Lady Kellar It is a promising? field of maiden performers and in Loyal Belly F Cutis lias a likely representative who should carry the field along. Northern Smile, a local representative, lias good track form to commend his chances and will need only lo repeat it to De in the picture. Radio Queen showed speed at Cambridge and Tumble's form at Cambridge should ensure him a firm following. The Derby hope of the Johnstone stable, Star Guide, will add interest lo the contest, while Ringstone will have to be conceded every chance. Davy Day hails from J. T. Paul's stable and has all the reported credentials of a likely sort. ASSOCIATION HANDICAP, l A miles; maiden trotters. Elstree .-Shirley's Pal Worthy Worker Knlpaki Bill Ilii llii Sir Tony Masterman Glen Bingen Queen Anne Util, standing in the Association Handicap are Glen Bingen and Worthy Worker, a consistent placc-gctler in recent starts. Un form they shouid fight out- the finish. Elstree is the first of the progeny by Native Prince out of Homily Girl to race and ag she is an attractive sort interest will attach to her showing. Sir Tony is a promising maiden and he appears the piok of the remainder. JOHNSTONE HANDICAP, Six furlongs; ladies’ saddle. Eleie Hamlyn . Lt. ydsbhd Lynstep . . . Lt. Lone Derby . . 24 C'ueenie Direct Lt. Loyal Direct . . 2 4 Wall Street . Lt. Our Summer . 24 ydsbhd Sir Frank ... 24 Chudic .... 12 Willie Derby . 24 Levity .... 12 Nawton Parrish 24 Nerihana ... 12 Navy Blue . . 36 Hearsay .... 24 Our Peggy . . 36 The Ladies’ Saddle event, the first race of this kind that has been seen in the Waikato since the inauguration of this popular sport, has attracted a fine field and it should add to what is unquestionably a most interesting programme. Elsie Hamlyn and Wall Street have both won in this class of event and are sure to race prominently, while Loyal Direct and Hearsay, handily placed as they are off 24yds, are sure to make their presence felt in the class. Navy Blue, Our Peggy and Sir Frank may be reserved for later in the day, but if they start here their form will provide a line on their subsequent prospects. CRAIG HANDICAP, lj miles; unhoppled pacers and trotters. Marble Star. ydsbhd mare Lt. Fleet Arrow . . 24 Sir Tony .. . . Lt. Fisher 24 Worthy Worker Lt. lion Man .... 24 Tui’s Son . . . . Lt. Of the pacers, Hilcrest, Fisher, Sir Frank, and Bayard look the pick of this division, while in the trotting section, Moira Bingen, who is well placed, Aurumar and Meadow King should provide most opposition. WAIKATO FREE FOR ALL, 1 i miles. W-nile Derby Civic Bingen Chief Uenuku Red Frontier Double Great Hearsay Our Peggy Sir Frank Our War Peter Smith Roma Girl Our Summer Winaway Navy Blue Tangatu The principal event of the day, the Waikato Free for All, has attracted quite an outstanding field and in fact this is the first occasion in the Auckland Province that such an event has been provided. No less than six of the field are prominent performers and the issue is a very open one. Uenuku, the New Zealand grass track record holder for miles (3.13) which is only i-5s outside the world's record, is one of the chief contenders for major honours and in Navy Blue he will have a worthy opponent, who will fully extend him. The consistent Our Peggy will provide strong opposition, while Peter Smith, the outstanding intermediate horse, and a winner on two days at the Auckland Summer carnival will carry his full measure of support. Civic, a recent winner. Double Great, a class horse from Addington, and Our War, who prevailed convincingly at Epsorn in good class, will add considerable interest to a stirring contest. Then there are further contestants in the southern representative, Tangatu, and Bingen Chief, a pood performer last season. Roma Girl, Winaway, Our Summer. Willie Derby and Bed Frontier will all add interest to a tine contest.

CHILCOTT HANDICAP, Six furlongs; for 2-year-olds. Velvet Cushion Derby lluon Jack Potts— Bonnidene Abbess colt Dillon Audubon— Peter Bingen— Peterwah mare Cornelian filly filly Lady Hangawera Auto Lad Jewel Pointer— Charles Rex Ursaline Ally The majority of the field in this event will be performing for educational purposes, and Bonny Dean, who met with such success at the recent Auckland matinee meeting will have experience on his side. Charles Rex, Is reported to be working well, while the Dillon -Au d nbon colt and Auto Lad are cited as likely sorts who should carry the field along. The Jewel Pointer filly and Derby Huon will add interest to the contest. CLAUD ELANDS HANDICAP, One mile; saddle. Elsie Hamlyn . Lt. ydsbhd Exporter .... Lt. Nerihana ... 12 Lynstep Lt. Ratepayer ... 12 Our Flora .... Lt. Tommy MoElwyn' 12 Queenie Direct . Lt. Adversity ... 24 Wall street .. . Lt. Chudic ..... 24 Worthy Career . Lt. Loyal Direct . . 2 4 ydsbhd Levity 2 4 Fisher 12 Our Summer . . 24 Harlow 12 Roma Girl ... 24 Kia Kaha .... 12 The issue in the concluding event bears a very open aspect and those off the front, as is usual in this class of event (saddle) will have much in their favour. Both Wall Street and Lyn Step are speedy and will need only (o go away correctly to be decidedly dangerous. Fisher, Kia Kaha and Nereana, ofif 12yds, are handily placed, while Adversity and Loyal Direct, who showed up at Cambridge, shouid he the pick of the remainder.
