SPORTS GROUNDS
USE OF CLAUDELANDS AREA SHOW EXECUTIVE’S SUPPORT , A decision to support an application from the Hamilton Domain Board for the use of the Claudelands showgrounds for the playing of winter sports was made at a meeting of the executive of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association to-day. The board wrote stating that there was a shortage of grounds duo to 1 lie taking of Hayes Padodck for housing and the reduction of the area a\ailable on Hinemoa Park. The board suggested that it would be preferable for the association to deal with the board instead of individual sports bodies. Responsibility for the laying out and upkeep of tingrounds would be borne by the board General agreement with the board's attitude was expressed and it was decided to meet the board in conjunction with representatives of the Waikato Trotting Club and the Auckland Provincial Polo Association, with a view* to concluding satisfactory arrangements. The president, Mr P. II Cl ark in, and Messrs F. 5. Veale, W. R. J. Franklin and R. A. Hinton were appointed to represent the association. The Knox Presbyterian Church was granted the use of tlie showgrounds for a, picnic on February 11, and the South Auckland branch of the National Beekeepers* Association for its annual field day on February io.
