FINANCIAL POLICY
STUDYING THE EFFECTS / TASMANIAN PARTY ARRIVES (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday A delegation of Tasmanian Parliamentarians arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Awatea on a special mission to investigate the New Zealand Government's financial policy and its reactions in New Zealand and upon Australia and Tasmania. The party comprised Mr Edmund DwyerGray, treasurer of Tasmania, Mr J. McDonald, M.L.C., honorary Minister, and Mr J. R. Quin, private secretary to Mr Dwyer-Gray. They expect to spend about three weeks in New Zealand. “We have come,” said Mr DwyerGray, ‘‘to conduct an inquiry into the financial and economic effects of the Government's financial policy and ascertain as far as possible the actualities of banking and the financial position in New Zealand and its reactions on Australia and possibly on Tasmania.” He naturally did not wish to express any definite opinions on any problems of the Dominion until he knew more about them but he could say at once, at any rate tentatively, that in his opinion the New Zealand Government was justified in its proposals to license imports and exports and control them.
Fine Trout Landed A well-conditioned female rainbow trout of 71b. was landed on wet-fly from the Waikato River below Arapuni by a Hamilton angler on Saturday forenoon last, this being the best fish reported from waters in the neighbourhood of Hamilton for the weekend. The trout was in excellent condition, being particularly thick through the shoulders for its length —24in. The fish was taken on a home-made fly, fished deep in an eddy, and took 15 minutes to land on heavy tackle. Other small bags are reported from the Hora Hora stretch of the Waikato and the presence of numbers of young trout of about l*lb. is also reported.
