MR WILLIAM HART, HASTINGS LONG NEWSPAPER CAREER (By Telegrapn — Press Association) HASTINGS, Saturday The death of Mr William llart, former Mayor of Hastings, occurred I to-day. His rise was 75. I Born in Sunderland, England, Mr Hart came to New Zealand as a boy. For a time he was employed in the printing trade in Dunedin and he later joined the Oamaru Mail, where he remained 21 years before coming to Hastings, when, in 1899, he took over the Hastings Standard. After disposing of the Standard in |9OB, it then becoming the Tribune, Mi* Hart commenced a printing busi- ! ness, which he disposed of in 1922. He served for some time as a coun-
cillor and in 1913 was elected Mayor. He served in this oflice till J 917 and again from 1921-22. He was a mem-
