TAUPO POPULAR

ARMY OF MOTOR CAMPERB HIGHER BUSINESS TURNOVER (Special to Times) TAUPO,. Thursday Record numbers of visitors are encamped at the main camp site by Lake Taupo, which has been full since Monday. About 200 vehicles representing approximately 800 persons, were parked there last night, and so far few of the campers have moved on. A number of campers has also made use of the old orchard site, in which there is still plenty of room. The weather since Sunday night has been exceptionally good, but for a few hours’ rain on Tuesday evening. The warm and sunny days induced a large number of campers to go bathing in the lake, which had been far too cold for swimming. The various shops and lodges report a great increase in their turnover compared with previous years, and all the hotels are fully booked out. The volume of motor traffic in the main street of Taupo since Monday has been extraordinarily heavy.
