CONVERSION OF BONDS AN AUSTRALIAN CHARGED APPLICATION FOR EXTRADITION United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Convrtghti LONDON, Dec. 29 The extradition to Australia of Robert Gordon Russell, aged 40,. engineer’s assistant, was souught at BowStreet Police Court to-day. He was charged with the fraudulent conversion of Commonwealth Treasury bonds and shares in Miller, Anderson, v Limited, of a total value of £19,140. The shares and bonds were stated to be the property of Allen Doolette Anderson, of South Australia. Detective McGrath, of Adelaide, told the magistrate he had come specially from Australia with the warrant and other papers relating to the case. Russell, the detective said, had appeared on the charge at Adelaide, but had absconded from bail. Russell’s counsel asked: —“Do you suspect that others were concerned ’’ Detective McGrath: I suspect that Russell did not receive the full benefit of the amount mentioned in the charge. Was he the mug?: lie might have been taken advantage of by others. Defending counsel said he had advised Russell to return to Australia to contest the case, for he had a complete answer to the charge. Accused was remanded.
