GERMANS ANGRY

LIMA CONFERENCE A PRESS RECEPTION NO INVITATION GIVEN (United Preea Assn.—Elec. reL Copyright) LIMA (Peru), Dec. 28 German newspaper correspondents have protested to Berlin because they were not Invited by President Benavides to a foreign press reception. They have also refused to report the Pan-Amerloan Conference further, owing to the "direct international affront.” The German and Italian official news agencies are endeavouring to make an international incident of the non-invitation to the reception. The Peruvian Foreign Office explained that invitations were confined to American journalists. However, several French correspondents were present. The Peruvian Government refused lo permit of a strongly-worded despatch to the German Government ui which Count Simons, on behalf of the Nazi journalists, alleged there had been subterfuge and false explanations, and added that the withholding; of the invitation was a hostile act against the German Government. Count Simons also alleged that throughout the conference the Nazis were treated with marked contempt. An Official Protest The Nazis’ complaint has been taken to the German Minister, Dr. E. Schmitt, who is expected to relay the protest through diplomatic channels and possibly lo make an official protest to the Peruvian Foreign Minister. The official Italian agency is lodging a similar protest with the Fascist Minister, the Marchese di Castelnuovu. The Italians and Germans boycotted the final session of the conference, which closed ou a note of accord. The chairman, Dr. Carlos Concha, declared the Americas had reached a new epoch in their evolution toward solidarity. Mr Cordell Hull (United States) said: "We have stated our agreements in declarations rather than treaties. That is wise when matters dealt with are of a general character and political nature.” “Trust Has Vanished" Mr Hull asserted that the conference had given statesmen greater faith in the common American destiny, and added: “We know agreements that appeared to offer a foundation of stability and order have disappeared. In muoh of the world, trust in any form of agreement has completely vanished. “Might has stated it would have its way and would recognise no equal save might. We propose to express our common desire to work together most effectively to resist the spread of these conditions to our own continent. The utmost degree of vigiianoe may be required.”
