NEW APPOINTMENTS MADE APPROVED BY THE KING (Official Wireless) (Received Dec. 29, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Dec. 28 Military appointments approved by the King include: Colonel F. K. Simmons, from General Staff Officer, first grade, British forces in Palestine and Transjordan, to be commander of the Shanghai area of British troops in China, with the temporary rank of Brigadier, in place of Colonel A. F. De Telfers-Smollett, who is being appointed LieutenantGovernor of Guernsey, to take effect on June 5, 1939. Lieutenant-Colonel J. T. Leslie, Royal Berkshire Regiment, to be Commander of the Canal and bridge British troops in Egypt, with the temorary rank of Brigadier, in place of Colonel W. T. Brooks, whose tenure expires on October 14, 1939.
