WELLINGTON SUCCESS OTAGO OVERWHELMED THE CONCLUDING PLAY (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Wellington defeated Otago by an innings in the Plunket- Shield match to-day, Elmes being the only Otago batsman to make a good stand in their second strike. After the luncheon adjournment Pritchard and Ashenden took up the attack. The scrore was taken to 125 when Leader, who had scored 24, was snapped up low down in the slips by Ell off Ashenden. Groves joined Elmes, who was 35, and the score was taken to 142, when Elmes, who had played a very patient innings of 113 minutes for 40, fell ieg before to Ashenden. Silver joined Groves, but, after hitting a boundary off Ashenden, was clean bowled by the same bowler. Purdue, the last man, arrived to see Groves lift one from Ashenden over the fence at long-on for six. Rice, at second slip, dropped Purdue off Pritchard. The score was taken to 161, when Groves, who had scored 16 quickly, was bowled by Ashenden. The innings, which closed at 2.25 p.m., occupied 177 minutes.
