ROOF-TO-ROOF AEROPLANE THE PERFECT HELICOPTER (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 27 A really practicable roof-to-roof aeroplane is believed to have been evolved at last. A British and an Austrian scientist, Dr. A. P. Thurston and Herr Raoitl llafner, respectively, are completing what they regard as a perfect helicopter, with which they hope to revolutionise aviation. Ilerr llal'ner’s earlier- designs impressed British experts. His latest, on which he is working behind guarded doors in a London factory, is believed to be capable of rising vertically from the ground with the speed of a modern fighter and hovering stationary, it can attain a speed of 200 miles an hour. Captain MacMillan, in an article in the Daily Mail, says the machine can be controlled more easily than a motor-car, and is capable of a London to Paris flight in an hour. The writer continues: “Experts consider that after Herr Hafner’s helicopter, fixed wings for smaller aeroplanes will be superseded. “It will be able to alight on a cabbage patch- and take off passengers from the Imperial Airways building in London to Croydon. “The motor is housed amidships and drives three large helicopter blades, shaped like small wings. The joystick is the only orthodox equipment.”
