CHRIBTMAB AND NEW YEAR BREAKS OF THREE DAYS Owing to the terms of the master bakers' awards covering the Christmas and new year holidays there will be no delivery of bread between Saturday and Wednesday of each week. Holidays to be observed under the award this year are December 26 and 27, and January’ 2 and 3. as Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and " the day following New Year’s Day ” respectively. The award states that by virtue of tbe Public Holidays Act, 1910, and its amendments. Christmas Day. Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will be observed on December 26 and 27, and January 2 respectively. As, however, the Shops and offices Act does not prescribe any holidays, there is nothing to compel bakers and confectioners to close their shops on those days. Where {he half-holiday Is observed on the Saturday, it is competent th s year for any shopkeeper whose shop is closed on the following Monday to observe the half-holiday on some day other than Saturday in the previous w r eek, provided lie previously notifies the inspector of the day lie intends to observe. In all centres the ordinary retail shops are not changing the day of the half-holiday, even though entitled to do so. Fdrther, on the late night, bakers .and confectioners may keep open until 10 p.m. instead of the usual 9 p.m. This applies to new year week as it does to Christmas week.
