PRICES IN LONDON STEADY AN INTERESTING COMPARISON Advices from London show that prices for New Zealand butter remain steady on a quiet market. Choicest salted Is again quoted at 114 s per cwt. Australian salted at 109 sto 110 s shows a decline of about 6d on the past week. In unsalted butters. New Zealand Is selling at 115 s per cwt., and Australian at Ills. At this time last year, New Zealand was selling at 136 s per cwt. The rise in the market continued until early in November, when the peak price of 152 s per cwt. was reached. The cheese market is quiet. New Zealand white and coloured are botli Is lower than last week at 71s per cwt. Recent quotations and those of a year ago compare as follows: Oct. 21 Oct. 1 4 0ct.22 Butter— 1 93S 1938 1937 New Zealand 114/- 114/- 13ft/Australian . . 109/0 1 10/- 130/Cheese—N.Z.: White . . 71/- 72/- G9/6 Coloured . . 71/- 72/- 09/Canadian: White . . 72/6 72/- 70/6 Coloured . . 72/6 72/- 71/6 The present price of 114 s is equal to approximately 13.59 d per lb., f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d per lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guarantied price is almost 125 s per cwt. The equivalent price of cheesy is about B.ofid per lie, f.0.b., compared with tlie guaranteed price of 8.42 d.
