At 6.45 last night the station waa left locked and nothing waa heard until about 4.15 a.m. when a porter, Mr A. B. Coster, who lives In a railway house about 30 yards awav, waa awakened by what he described as a dull thud. However, he did not taka a great deal of notice of the noise but on opening the station at 6.30 this morning he discovered that a back window had been shatteVed and that someone had entered the building. On entering the stationmas'.er'i office he found the safe door wide open and the inside' of It blown off. The job was obviously the work of someone acquainted with explosives though the charge used was somewhat excessive as parts of the lock on the front of the door had been blown into fragments, causing pronounced marks to be seen on the office wall." Lying on the floor were a mallet and , two screwdrivers which were subsequently found to be' the property oi Messrs John Ferguson and Sons', whose motor and vehicle factory Is situated about 75 yards from the station In Lake Street. The burglar had evidently entered Ferguson and Sons' premises hv a back door and had stolen the tools.
