SEVERE STORM
DOWNPOUR IN HAMILTON RAIN, HAIL AND THUNDER LITTLE DAMAGE REPORTED Torrential rain accompanied by a high wind swept Hamilton last e\ening and this morning when one of the severest storms this year was experienced. Heavy falls of liail and intermittent claps of thunder added to the force of the storm. Although the full intensity of the disturbance was not reached until last evening, very heavy showers fell throughout Saturday night and early yesterday morning. In Hamilton the total lali for the 48 hours ended 9 o’clock this morning was 1.04in. and at the Ruikura Farm of Instruction the recording was .73in. Apart from a few local electrical transformers being affected little damage w r as done in the borough. Private gardens, however, suffered to a considerable extent, with leaves and small branches scattered about. Road surfaces have not been unduly affected by the heavy rain and no main routes were closed to day, although portions of the HamilionRotorua highway were very greasy, rao qlliifdyl
