LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

COMBINED “FATHERS NIGHT” THIRD BIRTHDAY AT KIHIKIIII A large and representative gathering assembled at the Town Hall, Kihikilii, recently, to celebrate the third birthday of the Kihikilii branch of the League of Mothers. Tokanui branch joined with Kihikilii to make it a combined "Fathers’ Night.” The proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem. Mrs McGhie, president of the Kihikilii branch, welcomed the visitors and branch members from Hamilton, Ngahape, and Arapuni and a special welcome was extended to Mrs Hyams, president of the Grey Lynn branch of the League. Mrs Barnett, district organiser and president of Tokanui branch, endorsed Mrs McGhie’s welcome and enlarged on the aims and objects of the League of Mothers. An interesting and appreciated programme was given by the following artists: Mrs Sullivan, Te Awamutu, seng; Mr Barrett, Waikerift, saxophone solos; Mrs McCreadv, Te Awamutu, song and humourous elocutionary item. A Boy Blue ballet by the Tokanui children, an Irish Jig by Ethne Wyllie, songs by Miss N. Old, Mrs Flower and Mrs Middlebrook, Te Awamutu, and elocutionary items by Miss Willocks were also much enjoyed.

A playette, “A March Wedding,” was contributed, the following taking part: Misses Mary Eyre, Moyra Wyllie, Betty Donaldson. Marjorie and Gwen Crook. Sylvia Penny and Doris Pattison. The items were interspersed with musical arms and a relay game for the' children, which caused much amusement. A presentation of a travelling cushion was made to Mrs F. Barnett, who is leaving the district, by the Ngahape and Kihikilii branches. (Mrs McGhie in making the presentation on behalf of the branches, spoke of the splendid work achieved by her as district organiser. Mr G. Barnett, of Tirau, suitably replied on behalf of Mrs Barnett. Shoulder sprays were presented to Mesdames Hyams, Barnett and McGhie. Supper was served by the ladies, followed by the cutting of the birthday cake which was iced in the League's colours, blue' and gold. The candles were lit by Mrs F. Moody, the eldest member. Mrs Hymans before blowing them the toast of the evening, Mrs Barnett cutting the cake. Mrs S. Wyllie, Tokanui, tendered thanks to the Kihikihl branch for combining with them In celebrating I ‘Fathers’ Night,” which had been greatly enjoyed. Mrs McGhie returned thanks to those present for their help and services in making the evening a suc - cess. Mr R. P. Robinson, assisted by Messrs A. S. and H. W. Wyllie, officiated as M.C. Apologies were received from the Te Rore branch, who were unable to be present.
