CopyrigliJ LONDON, April 2 The annual boat race on the Thames between Oxford and Cambridge to-day was won by Oxford for the second year In succession. The winners finished strongly and well two lengths ahead of the rival boat. Cambridge won the toss and took the Surrey station. Oxford was smartly away and was a quarter of a length ahead at the end of the first 50 yards. This lead was Increased to one length at the mile post. Cambridge drew level at Chiswick, when Cambridge was stroking 38 and Oxford 36. Both slackened down, but Oxford led again over the last half mile and in spite of a strong wind, pulled ahead and won comfortably. TIME 1 9 2 MINUTES CAMBRIDGE 47, OXFORD 42 (Omclal Wireless) RUGBY, April 2 Oxford’s time in the boat race was 19J minutes. Since the first race in 1829 Cambridge has won 47 times and Oxford 42. Oxford has won only three times since the Great War. including the 1937 race.
