OBITUARY
MRS MARIA NELDER The death has occurred at Totara North (in Hokianga district) of a former well-known and respected resident of Kihikihi in the person of Mrs Maria Nelder, who went to Kihikihi via the Waipa River route to Pirongia with he? parents when she was a child. Her father, the late Mr James Farreil, participated in the Wai Rato War, and the Indian Mutiny, and was subsequently stationed at Kihikihi where lie became the first chairman of the Kihikihi Town Board. lie acted as school teacher and filled other public offices with credit. Miss l-'arrell grew to womanhood at Kihikihi, and was for some time postmistress, and was respected by all. About 30 years ago she went north and settled at Whangaroa, where she married Mr Ernest Nelder. More recently they moved to Totara North. Mrs Nelder is survived by her husband but there is no family. A brother is Mr E. .1. Farrell, J.P., of Huntly, and the only sister is Mrs J. Sullivan, oi Hamilton. The funeral took place at the Hairini ’ Cemetery, the cortege leaving the [ Kikihiki Catholic Church, of which Mrs . Nelder was a great worker in pasl ‘ y ears * __________
