FIGURES MAINTAINED RETURNS FOR FIRST QUARTER 27 NEW HOUSES BUILT No surer barometer of the progress of Hamilton is available than the building figures for each month and those for the first quarter this year show that the remarkable progress of last year has been well maintained. Last year was a record one in that the increase in the value of building was over £IOO.OOO, but despite this, last year’s figures for the first quarter have been exceeded this year. During the quarter just closed 27 new houses were erected in Hamilton, compared with 70 in the first quarter last year, while the total number of permits were 05 compared with (0. The value of the work, however, increased from £34,197 to £37,057 10s for this quarter. The following tables show the . figures for the individual months and the totals for this year and last year—
