SERIES OF THEFTS
L BOYS IN A MOTOR-CAR ■ SENT TO INSTITUTIONS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. An amazing series of thefts and car conversions was revealed in the Children's Court to-day when two boys, a Maori and a European, who had escaped from the Weraroa training farm, faced a number of charges. The Maori was ordered to be returned to Weraroa, and the European 3 boy was ordered to be sent to a Borf stal Institution for one year. The boys, it was stated, took a car ! at Levin, left it at Palmerston North and took another. This they left at 3 Hawera, and 'Selected an expensive f car which they drove to New Ply- . mouth. There they broke into a garage and stole money and goods. They toured Auckland and the Bay of 3 Plenty, and later returned to New I Plymouth, where they were appre- . hended. ROTORUA, Thursday. i s In the Rotorua Police Court this r afternoon three natives, Arthur Mid- - wood. Tata Rodgers, and Reginald Tai, pleaded guilty before Mr S. L. Pater--1 son, S.M., to a series of car converr slons. The accused faced charges of 2 conversion between December 26 and o February 2. s The magistrate convicted and sen- ■. tenced Midwood and Rodgers to two e years’ reformative detention, and Regt inald Tai, who the police stated had - not driven any of the cars, 'to two years’ probation.
