BRITISH BUDGET INCREASE IN INCOME TAX LONDON, March 31. The Treasury returns show that income tax brought nearly £10,000,000 above the estimate. Stamp duties, chiefly owing to the heavy decline of Stock Exchange business, fell £5,000,000 below the estimate. The surplus is the biggest for four years. The defence expenditure from the Budget and from borrowing totalled £262,000,000, an increase of £76,000,000 over the previous year.
