WAIKATO MEETING AHEAD TRILLIARCH OVER SIX STAR ARTIST HITS OUT (By “Martian.”) There was some interesting work at Te Rapa this morning when the course proper, some 60ft. out from the rails, provided excellent going. The best efforts of the morning were those of Trilliarch over six and Star Artist over
seven furlongs. Royal Bachelor (C. L. Goulsbro) hit out over seven furlongs, being under restraint over the last couple of furlongs to record 1.37 1-5 for the full distance, after cutting out the first two furlongs in 24s and the first half-mile in 535. Royal Bachelor is bearing a healthy appearance and should perform well at the approaching Waikato meeting. Desert Star (R. G. Ozanne) and Sandrift (R. E. Thomson , negotiated a round in 2.10 2-5, doing their workwell over the concluding stages. Sandrift is an acceptor for the Fra ilkton Hurdles the first day here and in the class she is not without good prospects. Rolllcker Shapes Well
Rollicker (G. L. Goulsbro), who looks benefited by racing at the Takapuna meeting, hit out freely over six furlongs In 1.22 A, running his initial two furlongs in 24Us. Rollicker is handily placed with 7.7 in the sprint the first day at Te Rapa and will have his opportunity to make amends for his narrow defeat at the recent Takapuna gathering at Ellerslie. Modern Maid (R. E. Thomson) went once round easily in 2.23 1-5. She s bearing a robust appearance. Star Artist (G. L. Goulsbro), travelling well within herself throughout, got to the end of seven furlongs in 1.33, her first half-mile in 525. This member of the Julian establishment will lack little on the score of condition for engagements at the Waikato meeting. Bronzette (R. G. Ozanne), brushed home from the three furlong peg in 375. She looks improved with racing. A Smart Six Furlongs The best figures of the morning over six furlongs were those of Trilliarch (G. L. Goulsbro), who ran the distance in 1.20 1-5. He was travelling evenly throughout and may reopen his winning account soon. Sinking Fund (R. E. Thomson) and Calshot (R. G. Ozanne) came hame from the live in 1.9, occupying 54is for the final half-mile. Gay Streak (G. Carmont snr.), after working round to the three furlongpeg came home from there in 455. He was under a strong hold throughout. Centaurus and Susan ran home easily from the half-mile in 58s. Friskland (R. E. Thomson) and Senacre (R. G. Ozanne) were associated over half-a-mile coming home in 535, a useful effort. Senacre has been shaping well of late and a winning turn for this member of F. J. Tutchen’s stable may come shortly. Respectful (W. Ensor) ran half-a-mile easily in 53As. Respectful appeal’s to be on the upgrade. Dark Shadow (W. M. Thomson) ran an easy three furlongs in 40s. Dark Shadow is an acceptor for the Storey Memorial Handicap the first day here and will not lack a following on the machines. Master Brierly Master Brierly (S. Murray), assisted by Prince Rangi (Bootsma), ran once round, under restraint, in 2.J7. Master Brierly has been shaping well of late and promises to strip in forward condition for engagements at the local meeting. Prince Rangi, too, is bearing a bright appearance and further stake money may come his way in the weeks ahead. Gometarium (light boy) ran once round lazily in 2.13. Cometarium is showing improved form on the tracks and Is not without prospects in pending engagements.
