NATIONAL PARTY

CAMBRIDGE BRANCH SELECTION COMMITTEE (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. At a meeting of the Cambridge branch of the National Party last evening it was stated by the chairman, Mr Edgar James, that the Waikato electorate is now the best organised in the Dominion. He said the ever-increasing membership was now well over *’ie 2500 mark and the time had arrived for the selection of a candidate. Mr James added he had expected better results rrom the Cambridge branch, the membership of which was slightly below 150. He instanced the organisation in smaller districis which had passed the Cambridge total. The meeting agreed that membership drives were more difficult in the town than the country. A ladies’ committee was appointed, with Mesdames J. Hooker and A. .Macdonald as conveners, and it Is expected that tiie membership will be greatly increased as a result. Selection Committee At the present time, the Cambridge branch is entitled to nine representatives on the selection committee and these were appointed last evening. As the membership will be Increased before the selection date, thus giving tne branch additional representation, other members were appointed as provisional representatives. A brief outline of activities was given by Mr Mervyn Wells, president of the Cambridge branch. Mr G. W. Carter was appointed secretary in place of Mr S. Nicholson, who has left the district.
