NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS^ the call of the open road FINE SPORTING ATTRACTIONS Encouraged by the brilliant weather of the past week, thousands of Hamiltonians have made elaborate preparations and plans for another week-end away. The celebration of the birth of a new year Is the signal for merriment everywhere and whether one remains at home, tours to a thronged resort or spends the week-end at some Quiet haunt, the spirit of New Year will prevail. Should the weather remain fine it is expected that the flood of traffic on the roads will be as extensive as was carried during the great Christmas exodus to the holiday resorts. The hundreds of Hamilton people who oame home from the last week-end tanned by the hot sun will be able to take more liberties with the sun when relaxing on the sparkling sands and tumbling in the exhilarating surf. i During all of this week holiday • makers, dressed in comfortable clothing and bearing the signs of holiday nonchalance, have been wandering through the streets of Hamilton and the motorist camp has been very i popular. Bookings on the railway are again; very heavy for the week-end and thousands of happy holiday makers will be either leaving for, or returning from a ▼aoatlon.

An excellent programme of sporting events is scheduled for the New Year week-end and whatever their favourite •port may be, Hamiltonians should not be disappointed with the fare provided. Besides the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie during the weekend, one of the major sporting attractions in the province will be the gala •ports gathering at the Morrinsville ■peedway on Monday next. The big draw card will be the appearance of the orack Australian oyclists. Many other novelty events are featured. Open meeting of the Hamilton Athletic Club at Hinemoa Park. Open athletio meeting at Taumarunul. Tauranga tennis tournament continues. South Auckland bowling tournament continues In Hamilton.
