WAIKATO HUNT MEETING SLEEPY WINS THE BIQ EVENT CHIEF FLAT RACE TO RONA BAY (By Tele.—Speoial from “Martian.”) CAMBRIDGE, Monday. Although rain fell heavily for the most part of the day at Cambridge, the racing at the Waikato Hunt Club’s fifty-second annual meeting was interesting throughout. The track was in fair order, but became heavy towards the end of the programme. The holiday attendance was large. Several of the races provided stirring finishes. In the big race of the day, the Hunt Club Cup, and In the final event the favourites scored their 'only victories. The difficult weather and the fact that both steeplechases provided a chapter of accidents, enabled some of the ¥ leaser-fancied horses to gain first placings. The chief event provided one of the best finishes and the favourite Sleepy prevailed. Gay Sister gave one of her best performances to date in the Bardowie Handicap. Thespis and Adsum ran off at the completion or a circuit while Royal Dispute lost his rider and Lochiei Lad came down going across the top the second time and broke a leg. Thespis, Bells or Bow, Sleepy. Adsum and Tangled were the first to show out and High Commissioner fell at the first fence. Thespis led past the stands the first time and was there showing the way to Grantham, Sleepy, Adsum, St. STusK, Bells of Bow and Tangled. Thespis and Adsum ran off along the back and there Royal Dispute lost his rtder. St. Musk and Windsor Lad then took charge from Sleepy, Lochiei Lad railing across the top the second time. Passing the stands the second time Windsor Lad was out from St. Musk with Sleepy, Tangled. Grantham, and Bells of Bow racing next In that order. Going along the back the last time around St. Musk had taken up the running from Sleepy and Tangled and a gap separated this trio from Bells of Bow, Windsor Lad and Grantham. There was no alteration across tne top and St. Musk led Into the straight clear of Sleepy. This pair •were associated in a thrilling finish, Sleepy getting the verdict arter a great fight. He prevailed over St. Musk by threequarters or a length and Tangled was third eight lengths away. Bells of Bow was fourth then came Windsor Lad, Grantham and Mlo Lume.
