RECORD TONNAGE.

NEW EUTOR-SHIP ARRIVES. NO DIFFICULTY IN BERTHING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. With a draught by the stern of 33ft 7 inohes the new Federal Line motor-ship Essex, which berthed this morning, broke the Auckland record for merchant tonnage.

(H.M.S. Hood (42,000 tons) drew only 32ft 61n. Some units of the United States Navy, which visited the port in 1925, however, drew up to 85ft. No difficulty was experienced in berthing the Essex.
